It's as hard to find
good sites on the crowded Web as it is to find the
people in this camouflage scene. This page is
designed to help. |
There are so many sites on the Web
that search engines have become a time consuming way
to find what you want. The signal to noise ratio is
way too low. These are the sites that I return to over
and over again. Some of them are news & reviews sites,
some are advertisers of mine. Check them out, I think
you'll like them

digital imaging, published monthly. Each new issue
features 4 in depth camera reviews and articles, all

easy to understand. Previously reviewed cameras (over
120 to date) and selected articles remain available in
the magazine after their original publication date. In
addition, readers can participate the discussion
forums, or use the free classifieds ads service to
resell digital cameras and related equipment.

Dave Etchell's Imaging
Resource site is the place to go when you want to
check out camera reviews. Be sure to check out the
Imaging Resource COMPAROMETER™ that lets you compare
reference images from digital cameras side-by-side.
These images were taken under carefully-controlled
conditions, to provide valid comparisons of camera
capabilities in actual shooting situations.

When I need help or
advice, one of the first places I turn is Alexander
Ismail. Alex's site strives to be the single best
resource to consumers and prosumers considering or
using digital cameras and imaging & photo software.
His goal is to help you make better-informed purchases
more quickly by reducing the time and money spent
gathering the data to make the purchase decision,
avoiding a disappointing purchase, learning how to use
your purchased product, and answering questions you
might have using the product.

Bruce Feldman and Pete
Klinkowski run one of the most user-friendly stores on
the Web. They have even gone so far as to supply me
with products to test, with no return favors asked.
They may or may not have the lowest prices but you
know you're dealing with class people who stand behind
their products and are reachable by phone or e-mail
without having to work your way through layers of
staff people. Give them a look next time you're in the
market for digital photography equipment of any kind.

Phil Askey's site is a
beautiful piece of work backed up by some amazing
technology. Loaded with reviews and forums, one of
it's most unique features is the Digital Camera
Comparison Engine side-by-side comparison. This system
allows you to list the specs of two or more cameras
side by side so you can see how they differ. According
to Phil the main draw to the site is the daily news
updates, regular camera reviews, technical articles,
comparison database, galleries, discussion forums and
the all new digital photography glossary.

No one should be as
talented as the two guys who run DCRP. Jeff Keller is
the creator of the award-winning Jeff's Lostworld site,
which features a large Disneyland Memories section, a
Digital Photograph Gallery, the San Mateo High School
Alumni E-Mail List, and more. In addition, Jeff is the
creator of PowerWatch: The unofficial Power Computing
site, which received over 800,000 visitors in its
first year. Jeff also created the iMac2Day site, which
is now run by MacNN. In addition to all these projects,
Jeff works as a Content Engineer at Netscape. He
graduated with a BS in Cognitive Science from UCSD.
Delane Barrus runs GravityMedia which specializes in
web design, illustration, and animation. His clients
include Novell, Amplitude Software, Yakima Racks,
Windows to the Past, and a revamped Windows Developer
Web site is coming soon among others. Delane was
schooled at BYU, grew up in California and now resides
in Cedar Hills Utah. Interests include spiders and
insects, and Macintosh advocacy.
Pillip Greenspun's site
looks like it was designed by the UNIX guru (it was)
but beneath the text-based skin lurks a first-rate
writer and photographer. If you have any interest in
photography, Web design, humor, good writing, or good
photographs, this is a must see. Phillip has access to
the latest and greatest technology so if you were able
to lift the hood of this site you'd find amazing
technical resources. He has built the infrastructure
for a photographic community and has the hundreds of
thousands of visitors the site is designed to handle.
Check out the many services he offers. Oh, by the way,
not a banner ad on the site and all proceeds from
print sales and the like go to charity.

Doug Clifford is a
world-class indexer. If there is a photo resource out
there, he's found a list to put it on. Digital
photography is only part of what he covers so if you
have one foot in film and one in digital, the site's a
gold mine. A great source for everything photographic.
